Our first booking of the new year, the Western New Year that is, and being in the West, that seemed like a good time to call it the new year, although there are other new years that are just as relevant. Just ask the moon.

I digress.

The show was friggin’ cold. It was also cold outside. Mike Schurk returned on drums for us and we busted the fully set. Good to play with our old pal again who just celebrated the Team Relevance CD release in December http://teamrelevance.com/

The friendly bear behind the bar was extra busy and friendly which is a good manner to keep your bears in. Over to Joel’s for the after party which included about 700 tacos. Too bad Chris had to break that up, I could have really used another 40 or 50 of those.

In honor of Halloween we decided to play a set of all Russian folk songs. We thought, obviously the good people of Llywelyns would favor such a choice. For the better part of the evening we were proven right as several folks danced and clapped during and after each tune. This is a sure-fire way to win friends and influence your uncle. In light of this popular set, we are going to take a short break from playing there, mostly because it takes a while to learn all those Russian folk songs, and well, we sure wouldn’t want to repeat the same songs again after the feedback we recived.

Thanks to Steven Shalwitz, our band manager, for booking the show. We really need to give him props on our website more often. Consider this the first of those propers.

We also wore costumes, Brian was dead Abraham Linclon. Joel was a living Malcom X, Chris was one of those nurses from the Obama administration’s dead panels and Nathan was a mixture of Ben Franklin and a monk (thats what you get at 5pm on pre-Halloween night at Johnny Brocks).

Round two for the Bank Bar and The In? and this version was stripped down to Joel and Nathan. The gig was adjusted to the sound needs of a Bar which more prominently doubles as a sleeping quarters (directly above the stage) for romantics catching that Herman, MO glory. In any case, it was safe to say that Cracklin’ Baby Crawl was not played.

We did play most of the rest of the originals and took some requests from the audience who came in and out and then IN big time – right at the end of course. That last 30 minutes was the best of the two weeks, a full dance floor at 11:30pm, nice.

The new crew, with Brian Sigmund on drums, set out to beautiful Herman, MO at one of the best times of the year to be there, the wine time of Octoberfest. We played at the new Bank Bar venue which was just stretching its wings and learning its boundaries. We rocked out our full set of originals and a few of those dancy covers for the drinkers who managed to get down to the Herm on Friday night. Crashed at Brian’s lady’s house after wards and headed for an early morning load up of cubical partitions for the studio in Pacific, MO. Nothing says morning like carrying wall partitions. But they are great, thanks Dad for the hook up!
